As we have previously discussed, there are several advantages of inversion therapy. Common therapeutic inversion therapy benefits include relief from sciatica and other back pain, increased blood and lymphatic fluids flow, and restoring proper alignment to your spine. However, many people don’t realize how inversion techniques can help with seamingly unrelated injuries, such as foot or arm bruises and sprains.
I bring this up due to a recent conversation I had with someone who experienced a recenty injury that was not related at all to back, neck, or any other joint that most people would typically use an inversion therapy table for – he hurt the front part of the ball of his foot playing basketball. He said: “Basically, it feels like I jumped of a two-story building without shoes and landed on concrete. In between icing and resting my foot, I have been forced to move around a little bit – chasing kids, working, etc. Even with this minimal movement, I have noticed that my body has gotten out of whack, and both sides of my lower back and legs are starting to tense up, causing pain that I don’t want to have to deal with.
This is a perfect example of when someone should use inversion therapy for back pain…even though the injury that occured was not back-related. The fact is that anything that causes you to walk or move irregularly or to favor one side of your body will cause your back and hips to get a little out of position, and inversion table therapy can help you straighten things out. By inverting (which would be ok even on an inversion table with a foot injury like the one described above. Otherwise, he could consider using an inversion chair, although it wouldn’t be quite as helpful in this circumstance) at a 60% angle or more my friend would greatly relax his back muslces. In addition, he could do a gentle inversion therapy swing in which he swings from side to side after while being fully inverted. This swinging motion is terrific for stretching the legs, back, neck, and many other areas of your body, and doing so could greatly help this person to relieve the stress that is building up on both sides of his lower back and legs due to gravity and walking unevenly because of his injury.
Furthermore, the cost of inversion therapy is not that much. You can buy even the best inversion therapy table for less than $300, but you can find some very good inversion tables for around $120 – $150.
